Accessibility

At Newcastle Building Society we are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability.

We are actively working to increase the accessibility and usability of our website and in doing so adhere to many of the available standards and guidelines.

What are Newcastle Building Society's accessibility standards and guidelines?

This website endeavours to conform to level Double-A of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1.

These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities. Conformance with these guidelines will help make the web more user friendly for all people.

This site has been built using code compliant with W3C standards for HTML and CSS. The site displays correctly in current browsers and using standards compliant HTML/CSS code means any future browsers will also display it correctly.

What accessibility tools are available on the Newcastle Building Society website?

We have collaborated with assistive technology company, Recite Me, to add accessibility and language tools to the site, supporting those with disabilities, visual impairments, learning difficulties and whose first language is not English.

The customisable toolbar will helps to read and understand our content in a way that suits each person.

Some of the features include:

  • Screen Reader
  • Translation
  • Styling options, including font size, colour and font style
  • Reading Aids

The toolbar can be found at the top right of our homepage by clicking 'Accessibility Tools'. The below demonstration video provides more information.

How to use the 'Accessibility Tools'

Watch this video for a demonstration on how to use the accessibility tools on our site.

Which browsers is the Newcastle Building Society website compatible with?

Our site is tested on Chrome and Firefox browser platforms. It should also be compatible with a number of other browsers offered by other companies including Safari and Microsoft Edge.

This website is no longer optimised for Internet Explorer. This is because Microsoft is moving away from supporting Internet Explorer (which will be discontinued completely in 2022) and is instead focusing on supporting its more modern browser, Microsoft Edge.

How do I get in touch with Newcastle Building Society if I have problems accessing the website?

We are continually seeking out solutions that will bring all areas of the site up to the same level of overall web accessibility. In the meantime should you experience any difficulty in accessing our website, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
