The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation Account In just three years our members have helped to raise an incredible £1.8 million for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation through our charity linked accounts. So far, we've been able to donate an amount of just over £1.8 million to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, which was gratefully received by Sir Bobby's widow, Lady Elsie Robson on behalf of the Foundation. Lady Elsie said: "I'm extremely grateful to the Newcastle Building Society and its members for their wonderful support. We share the Newcastle's hopes that this will be a long-standing partnership and one which can help the Foundation continue its important work for a long time to come." Find out more about our special partnership by watching the short film below. The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation funds projects within the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As well as benefiting cancer patients from across the North East and Cumbria it also significantly contributes to the global fight against the disease. The Foundation's work includes the clinical trials of drugs at the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care in Newcastle. The charity has equipped the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre and funded a specialist clinical research nurse and research doctor within the Centre. More than 1,000 patients have been treated on clinical trials since the Sir Bobby Centre opened in February 2009 and an additional 1,000 patients have been enrolled in other research studies, studying the biology and genetics of cancer to help develop and improve treatments.
