Boardroom Charity Challenge 2016

We held our fifth annual Boardroom Charity Challenge in June, and children from Lingey House Primary School in Gateshead came out top, beating pupils from seven other schools across the North East.

As part of the challenge, we asked the schools to develop a business idea which will benefit their local community while making a profit. They then presented their ideas to a panel of judges in our boardroom.

The Lingey House team won the challenge and the £1,000 prize money with their proposal to stage a ‘Funky Fashion Show’ in aid of Marie Curie Hospice in Newcastle.

They’ll use the prize money to buy plain tee shirts and canvas bags, which they will sell to their schoolmates to decorate and personalise as they wish.  Their creations will then be revealed at a fashion show that the school hopes to stage in Gateshead College Theatre later this year.

The team from Valley Gardens Middle School in Whitley Bay finished in the runners-up spot.

The Boardroom Charity Challenge is a financial education programme which we developed to help young people learn about becoming more financially independent and has so far helped more than 2,000 children in schools right across the North East learn more about how to manage money.
