We were delighted to welcome Lady Elsie Robson to our Cobalt HQ to mark ten years of partnership between the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and Newcastle Building Society.

Lady Elsie, who established the Foundation with her late husband Sir Bobby in 2008, attended a special event, along with guests from Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, to dedicate a commemorative bench.

We first partnered with the Foundation in 2012 and since then we have donated over £3m – surpassing all early projections. We recently worked with the Foundation to release a new film highlighting the impact of their world-leading research.

Celebrating 10 years of support

Over the past decade we have contributed more than £3m to their life-changing work. To mark that milestone and the honour of being part of Sir Bobby’s 'Last and Greatest Team' we came together to make a special film to share the story of Rebecca and Keith.

Lady Elsie was accompanied by two of her and Sir Bobby’s three sons, Andrew and Mark, and was met by our chief customer officer, Stuart Miller. Also in attendance was Dame Jackie Daniel, chief executive at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and Jon Goodwin, heads of grant programmes at the Newcastle Hospitals Charity, of which the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation is part.

Working within the NHS, and in collaboration with Newcastle University and other cancer charities, the main aim of the Foundation is to help fund world-class cancer treatments that directly benefit patients, as well as funding projects that enhance cancer patient care.

Mark Robson, who is chair of trustees at the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, says: “My dad would be so thrilled by the exceptional support we’ve received from Newcastle Building Society over the last decade. They’ve always understood the importance of the work the Foundation funds, and the difference that makes to people facing cancer both now and in the future.

Dame Jackie Daniel, chief executive at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, adds: “Over the last 10 years, the support given by Newcastle Building Society for our Newcastle Hospitals Charity fund, the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, has been nothing short of magnificent. Real progress has been made into cancer research through clinical trials during that time thanks to their generosity.
