Head of Product Development

Ben joined the Society in 2003 and spent some time working as a Clerk and Senior Clerk in a number of our customer contact teams, before becoming a Task Trainer and later a Team Leader.

In 2009 Ben took the opportunity to move to IT Web Services as a Marketing Officer. This started Ben’s Marketing career, and after transferring to the Marketing team, he progressed through a number of roles until he was promoted to Head of Product Development, taking a key role in shaping the Society’s mortgage and savings offerings.

What’s your greatest achievement with the Society?

My promotion to Head of Product Development would be my greatest achievement. This promotion allowed me to achieve my objective in taking responsibility of the Society’s mortgage and saving products and playing an important part in the Society’s overall strategy.

What do you like best about working here?

The ability to work in different areas across the business, within my career to date I’ve experienced various different departments going from Mortgage Operations, the contact centre, various 3rd parties, IT and finally marketing. This diversity has helped me gain a wide range of experience throughout the business which has helped me in my current role.

How has the Society helped you develop?

The Society has given me the opportunity to develop throughout my career.  Following my promotion to Head of Product Development the Society supported me through a clear development plan which ensured I could successfully take on the role.  It would have been an easy choice to recruit for this role externally, however the Society showed its desire to promote within and develop its staff.

What would you say to someone that was thinking about a career with the Society?

I would say that the Society will give you opportunities to progress in your career and that career could take a different path to the role that you start off in.
