Our Top Five Reasons Why Newcastle Is One of the Best Cities in the World

Our beautiful city has recently been named number one place to visit in 2018 (IN THE WORLD!). Rough Guide put Newcastle top of the ‘places that should be on your radar in 2018’ list, above the likes of Malta, New Orleans and Sicily.

The People

There is no doubt that us Northerners are among the friendliest people on the planet. Speak to someone on the metro, or in a shop or bar and we will always be happy to chat! Newcastle is one of the friendliest cities and we certainly know how to have a good time. We are all proud to be Geordie, why, because it’s such a special place.

A Great Place To Live

According to a survey by MoneySuperMarket.com, Newcastle was crowned best place to start a family and bring up children*. Our iconic city was rated top for good schools, low house prices and a low crime rate. *Average house price in the North East is £144,186 (November 2017) as opposed to £311,043, the UK’s National Average; meaning we are likely to get a lot more house for our money up North.

Architecture, History And Culture

The North East is oozing in history and Newcastle is no different. Home to Grey’s monument, Central Arcade and Newcastle’s castle keep, there are plenty of historic landmarks to see. For the art lovers among us, we are seriously spoilt for choice, with the Laing Art Gallery, Theatre Royal, Biscuit Factory and Tyneside Cinema on our door step! If that wasn’t enough, there is a huge itinerary of events happening all year round to get you out and about in the city.

The Quayside

Whether it is a sunny afternoon, or a get together with friends, the quayside is the place to be. With a massive range of bars and restaurants, there is something for every occasion. Plus the views are stunning, come day or night.

Shops Galore

If you are a shopaholic, or just fancy a bit of retail therapy then Newcastle city centre should be your place of choice. Head to Intu Eldon Square, home to a huge range of retailers, including Fenwicks, John Lewis, Next and Topshop, to name just a few. So you can well and truly shop ‘til you drop!

We could go on forever about the reasons we think Newcastle is one of the best cities in the world, but we’d much rather hear what you have to say.
