Emma and Amy Mills used the Deposit Unlock scheme to buy their new build flat in Plymouth with a deposit of just 5%.
Following a bad experience as renters, Emma (34) and Amy (31) decided that they wanted to find their own home. They wanted somewhere that was safe and they could call their own after renting for over 18 years.
Accessibility was also very important to the couple as Amy has Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS) and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS). They felt that a ground floor flat with an ensuite bathroom in the master bedroom would be best for them, as it would give Amy easy access on days when she was bedbound.
After a brief search, the couple fell in love with a new build Persimmon flat that was close to their local hospital - giving them both an additional sense of security given Amy's conditions.
On the 10th December 2022 Emma and Amy offered to buy the property and just 12 days later on the 22nd they collected the keys and moved in - two and a half months after they got married.

"No one that I have spoken to can believe we got into our new home as quickly as we did. It was like a world record I swear. After 18 years of renting we were finally in our own home!"
It was during the home-buying process that Emma and Amy learned about the Deposit Unlock scheme. Given their circumstances, their mortgage advisor recommended Newcastle Building Society to them as a flexible lender.
Emma and Amy are now loving life in their new flat.

"The Newcastle Building Society mortgage team were helpful and friendly to deal with over the phone, and set out the terms of our mortgage in a clear and easy-to-understand manner at the time of purchase."
