Our Commitment

We are committed to being a great place to work. Read more about the various commitments below.

Diversity Statement

  • As a member owned mutual, we aim to reflect the communities we serve in order to drive the right customer and business outcomes.
  • An inclusive environment allows all colleagues to be themselves, encouraging  diversity of thought, from a variety of social backgrounds and life experiences, to constructively challenge and drive innovation.
  • We seek to attract from diverse applicant pools and champion the untapped talent of our region. Talent is developed across the organisation so everyone has the ability to achieve their true potential.

As a Disability Confident Committed employer we have committed to:

  • Ensure our recruitment process is inclusive and accessible
  • Communicating and promoting vacancies
  • Offering an interview to disabled people
  • Anticipating and providing reasonable adjustments as required
  • Supporting any existing employee who acquires a disability or long term health condition, enabling them to stay in work
  • At least one activity that will make a difference for disabled people

Real Living Wage

The Real Living Wage is the only UK wage rate that is voluntarily paid by nearly 6,000 UK businesses who believe their staff deserve a fair day's pay for a hard day's work. The real Living Wage is higher than the government minimum.

The Real Living Wage rates are higher because they are independently-calculated based on what people need, as a minimum to get by.

Armed Forces Covenant

Armed Forces Covenant

In 2019 we signed the armed forces covenant as a first step in demonstrating our commitment to supporting those who serve or who have served their country. We welcome this opportunity to help us in creating and maintaining a diverse workforce.

Fulfilling the covenant’s commitments means that we work in partnership with key stakeholders, including reservists and our Armed Forces Champion who ensures that ‘Covenant’ commitments are met and they will seek to resolve any obstacles that emerge.

Princes Trust

We’ve committed to a four-year partnership totalling over £100,000 to support The Prince’s Trust ‘Team’ programme in addition to many other initiatives.

The Prince's Trust is one of the most successful funding organisations in the UK and the UK's leading youth charity, having helped over 950,000 young people turn their lives around, created 125,000 entrepreneurs and given business support to 395,000 people in the UK.

Investors in People: Platinum

Investors In People Platinum

In 2020, Newcastle Building Society has been awarded the Platinum standard by Investors in People (IIP), the highest status that can be achieved.
